education system

What are the main drawbacks of today’ education system?
The education system today prevailing is what has been propounded by Lord Macaulay 180 years ago. Earlier education system was society governed. Society use to select and appoint teachers and teachers were accountable to the society. Also the focus was on the personality development of the students. Later on, when Lord Macaulay visited India, he researched & found that people in India are morally very strong and rich. He found that it’s difficult to rule such a nation but can be done if the mode of instruction in English is implemented and they are made realized that their language is inferior to English people. Finally, they decided to demolish the education system and implemented their education system in which universities were the key players and along with state governments drafted syllabus.
And After adopting the new system everybody restricted their learning to degrees. Innovation has been overshadowed by cramming culture. In our present education system how and what has been our emphasized but “why” element is missing which makes teaching learning ineffective.
In the present scenario are there certain things & possibility which can be helpful in the transformation of the contemporary education system and what sole parents & students play in doing so?
It is been a valid fact that government & private institutions have been working in parallel & opposite directions the former is fully funded body and the later is an autonomous body. According to me first of all either we have to adopt one system completely as one is self funded & other is fully funded or sponsored therefore, we can’t imagine how both can be compared when their criteria & norms for quality are different. Hence, if there is a comparison or competition should be fair enough and for that we have to adopt one system no matter whom so ever.
Secondly, if private system is adopted then a complete autonomy should be provided to the self funded institutions for framing syllabus, fee determination or governance, infrastructure accommodation etc. In short accountability should be transferred to the public and least interference of government should be there. So, performance can be made effective if we follow more liberal perspective.
What role society must play in the present education system?
Society is also concerned that now youths are becoming book worms and just chasing the scores. The innovations and creativity traits are not well developed in our students.
Parents to be alert enough while choosing an institution for their children. They have to check the basics of any institution like their educational methodology, personality development initiatives, objectives, vision, faculty, dedication rather than going with the infrastructure part only the main criteria that the parents are preferring institutions is the low fee structure and is actually lacking sic ingredients essential for the overall development of the students.
Lack of awareness in students regarding their actual purpose of studying can be also a reason in ineffectiveness of our present education system?
Actually the present education system has already propounded a mission & vision for the students which has left least possibility for the students frame & decide on their own the vision & mission of the life.
I think the earlier systems of Nalanda and Takshila was much more effective & creative where there was no fixed curriculum for any fixed time, when the education was provided according to the interest and personality of the child, the student teacher ration & interaction was also good and that’s why students from all over the globe preferred to studied from such universities.
Such universities were universally popular and preferred where first time the best ayurvedic therapy was provided. Because of the healthy and congenial environment every students studying from there considered genius. Now we are only following prescribed syllabus which is hardly upgraded for the changing competitive world. As per the current scenario, there is a severe need of reframing of curriculums after every two years to provide quality competitive education. All this can be possible when private institutions can be provided autonomy as along state government can’t manage all things, so the scope of innovation in education can be attained.
